Time’s Up UK and US-based diversity and inclusion platform Black Beauty Roster (BBR) join forces for a second time, launching a new industry standard designed to tackle hair and makeup discrimination on set.

The introduction of the All Textures Certification (ATC) and its accompanying Leadership Council marks a pivotal milestone in the ongoing campaign for hair and makeup equity across film and TV. Together, the council – British actors and industry leaders across beauty, film, and television – will oversee the certification, shaping a more inclusive future for beauty professionals and the performers they work with on set and beyond.

This landmark moment was celebrated ahead of the 2026 EE BAFTA Film Awards at BAFTA HQ in Piccadilly, London, where British talent and industry leaders came together for a dedicated salon event championing equity in the industry with campaign ambassador actor Lashana Lynch, who says, “I’m so proud to see the progress being made for hair and makeup discrimination, enabling Black artists to collaborate in more trustworthy and collaborative environments. The development of the BBR X Time’s Up UK All Textures and All Complexions Certification is a necessary one. We have much to say, and I am excited to be part of its Leadership Council and continue this imperative work.”

Actor Naomie Harris says, “The All Textures Certification and Leadership Council represents a landmark moment in the mission for hair and makeup equity on set for Black and global majority actors. I’m honoured to stand with Time’s Up UK and BBR, and be part of the Leadership Council, working collaboratively on the exciting and much-needed work to advance equity and inclusion in on-set beauty practices.”

In support of the campaign 2026 BAFTA nominee Shunika Terry, SINNERS Hair Designer says, “Representing textured hair in every pattern on screen is more than artistry — it’s legacy work. After 29 years in the hair industry and more than two decades designing for film and television, I am honoured to authentically represent our textures in every frame. It is both my joy and responsibility to celebrate the beauty, versatility, and cultural significance of our hair.

When actors who have historically been underrepresented sit in my chair, trust is everything. That trust is built on experience, foundation, and a deep understanding that our hair deserves to be seen, respected, and celebrated. I deeply appreciate Black Beauty Roster and Time’s Up UK for standing for meaningful change in our industry and for supporting artists committed to elevating textured hair. I proudly support their mission.”

Creating a consistent, professional standard for assessing a hairstylist’s ability to work with all hair textures, the ATC ensures an equitable and seamless experience for all actors, across all productions – challenging histories of discrimination against Black and global majority actors. And makeup is to follow shortly.

Barbara Broccoli and Dame Heather Rabbatts, Co-Founders, Time’s Up UK, say, “As part of their commitment to ensure that the hair and makeup experience for actors in all sectors of the creative industries is professional, fair and equal, Time’s Up UK and the Black Beauty Roster have created an All Textures Certification (ATC).  This initiative will be implemented by a newly appointed All Textures and All Complexions Certification Leadership Council of hair and beauty professionals, actors and industry specialists.”

Maude Okrah-Hunter, CEO and Founder, Black Beauty Roster, says, Black Beauty Roster is proud to champion greater inclusion in the hair and makeup industry both on screen and behind the scenes as we expand into the UK. This new certification sets out to raise the standards for everyone – because every hair texture, from the straightest to the coiliest, deserves skilled and informed care. The certification with the leadership council marks an important milestone and demonstrates the power of collaboration in delivering meaningful and lasting change.”

Ade Rawcliffe, Chief People and Inclusion Officer, ITV and Time’s Up UK Board Director says, “Every artist deserves to feel supported on set, regardless of their background. Since joining forces with Time’s Up UK and Black Beauty Roster, it’s been heartening to see tangible progress in hair and makeup equity. At ITV, we are proud to help develop the new industry certification, ensuring these standards drive lasting, sustainable change for every performer.”.

Jessica Schibli, Head of Creative Diversity, BBC says: “Our Creative Diversity commitments sit at the heart of the BBC’s mission to reflect the full breadth of the UK and ensure everyone feels seen, valued and celebrated on and off screen. Hair and makeup equity is fundamental to authentic storytelling and is a core part of our Inclusive Production Principles.

“The Leadership Council and certification mark practical progress, strengthening consistency, accountability and inclusion across our industry to drive lasting change.”

Actor Fola Evans-Akingbola says, The collaboration between Time’s Up UK and BBR – and the launch of their new industry certification – is an exciting step towards achieving hair equality at an industry-wide level. It’s reassuring to watch the tide turning, seeing the collaboration and teamwork that crucial initiatives like this create, and I am proud to be part of the Leadership Council so we can continue to work together to establish a consistent, professional standard.”

Actor Ann Ogombo says, “I am delighted to be joining the Time’s Up UK and BBR Leadership Council to help shape a more inclusive future for beauty professionals and performers. The leadership and ingenuity of this collaboration has united stakeholders across the beauty and screen sectors, amplifying and progressing vital fairness in hair and make-up provision on set. For executives and creatives in the industry, their contribution here is highly valuable.”

Akua Gyamfi, CEO & Founder, British Blacklist says; “It is encouraging to see how this initiative continues to grow and hold the industry to account. Respecting all hair textures on set is not a favour, it is a professional standard. We’re proud of the strides Black Beauty Roster and Time’s Up UK have made in pushing this conversation forward and turning it into meaningful action.”

Liz Tagg, Principal of the Iver Academy, says, “Although national standards in hairdressing now reference diverse hair types, textured hair training is often theoretical and not consistently embedded in practical assessment. As an educator, I see the gap clearly — we need dedicated, industry-specific training because existing qualifications do not meet the realities of screen production.”

Makeup Professional Naomi Donne says, “For too long, there’s been a lack of makeup artists trained in textured hair and makeup for diverse actors. This has certainly improved in the last few years due to increased awareness and availability of specialised courses, but more needs to be done. All actors need to feel safe, secure and heard in the knowledge that their makeup artists are trained to deal with any type of hair and skin tone.”

BAFTA voting member and co-founder of PMA Racial Diversity Working Group Mildred Yuan says, “I am honoured to be a part of the Time’s Up UK and Black Beauty Roster Leadership Council for the All Textures Certification. We must take practical steps as an industry to ensure that actors of all complexions and hair textures receive equal services and support to look and perform their best at work. I look forward to raising the standards in our industry and continuing to champion equal treatment for all actors.”

Julie La’Bassiere, Chief Strategy Officer, DDA says, This campaign to institute an industry wide ‘All Textured Certification’ is fundamental to our work to promote and sustain equity in the film and television industry. I am thrilled to be part of the Leadership Council, which will be at the forefront of advocating for change and holding the industry accountable for making a difference that will have a tremendous impact”.

The event represents both the US and UK coming together – in the wake of the UK’s most notable date in the film calendar – to spotlight the ATC and Leadership Council, championing this landmark effort to ensure the hair and makeup experience for actors on set is professional, fair and equal.
