Global gender justice campaign, #StandWithHer, has just released a new 20-minute film documenting a rare conversation between Ziauddin Yousafzai, father of Malala who at 15-years-old was shot by the Taliban for campaigning for girls’ education in Pakistan, and Ranjit, father of Kiran (pseudonym) from Oscar-nominated film, To Kill a Tiger (currently on Netflix) which chronicles Ranjit’s pursuit of justice after his daughter is sexually assaulted in India.
These two fathers of remarkable daughters met for the first time in New York earlier this year to share their stories. The result is a frank and deeply moving conversation that offers an illuminating insight into the crucial role and power of male allyship. Inspired by director Nisha Pahuja’s ‘To Kill a Tiger’ and supported by Equality Now, Equimundo, MenEngage Alliance and the Ramesh and Kalpana Bhatia Family Foundation, #StandWithHer is a global initiative dedicated to empowering survivors of sexual assault and strengthening male allyship, understanding that working with men and boys is a critical, yet often missing component in the movement for gender equality.
