State of the World’s Fathers 2019: Accelerating Global Progress on Men’s Caregiving

What: Hosted by Promundo and Dove Men+Care, join the launch of State of the World’s Fathers 2019State of the World’s Fathers is a globally recognized, biennial report and advocacy platform produced by Promundo on behalf of MenCare: A Global Fatherhood Campaign. The report aims to change power structures, policies, and social norms around care work and to advance gender equality. The 2019 report will reveal new data and analysis from over 40 countries, launched at a Concurrent Lunch Session at the Women Deliver Conference in Vancouver, Canada on Wednesday, June 5.

24 Years Later, Are Women’s Rights Still Human Rights?

What: As we look forward to the 25th anniversary of Beijing (the historic Fourth World Conference on Women) next year, or toward efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 5 in 2020, women’s rights are still under attack. With the rise of misogynistic, populist, and nationalist movements, and dwindling resources for feminist and women’s rights organizations, how can we achieve our goals? Organized by Cameroon Center for International Development and International Center for Research on Women (ICRW), panelists in this session – including Promundo’s Brian Heilman – will share secrets to the success of effective campaigns for gender equality at global, national, and local levels.

The Power of Lift: Stepping up to use power for good (Plenary Event)

Where: Plenary Hall, Vancouver Convention Center Hours
What: Achieving gender equality will take all of us using our power for good. Regardless of age, gender, sexuality, geography, income, or title, each of us has a role to play. To create a gender equal world, it will take elected officials, as well as their spouses and partners. It will take community activists, lawyers, CEOs, and celebrities. It will take privileged populations and marginalized people pulling up chairs to the same table. The Power of Lift will inspire us through stories and examples of how people use their power to lift and support others. Speakers include Promundo’s Gary Barker.

Power of Communities: Engaging Men and Boys in the Age of #MeToo

What: Promundo-US and the MenEngage Alliance are co-hosting a “Power of Community” networking session on engaging men and boys in gender equality.

Power of Community: Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Stakeholders and Advocates Networking Session

When: 10:30am – 12:00pm PDT, Thursday, June 6
Where: Room 110, Vancouver Convention Center
What: Organized by WHO Gender, Equity and Human Rights, and Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (PMNCH) this Power of Community session is an interactive dialogue between civil society and health policy decision-makers to examine the importance of gender-responsiveness in universal health coverage. Conversation will address how universal health coverage policies and programs can advance women and girls’ leadership, health, and human rights – including sexual and reproductive health and rights, and how we can generate understanding of actions needed to address and overcome inequities and barriers. Promundo Senior Advisor Dean Peacock will be speaking at the event.

So…What Next?! Exploring Gender Norms and the role of Masculinities and Youth Engagement in setting priorities for Comprehensive, Evidence-Based Sexuality Education Programs

When: 10:00am – 4:00pm PDT, Friday, June 7
Where: The Hyatt Regency Vancouver, 655 Burrard St, Vancouver
What: Organized by Ipas, Promundo, and CHOICE, this meeting will provide a platform to identify and promote strategies to advance the dialogue around sexuality education and how to promote comprehensive programs. The focus and major theme will be to discuss and identify challenges and gaps as well as agree on key strategies and actions for the future to support the implementation of programs that are comprehensive based on evidence and international agreements. The meeting will help to create a plan on how to move forward on issues that are considered problematic or too controversial to be included in sexuality education programs.
